privacy policy

overview

dawn operates dawn.show (the website) and the dawn android tv app. this page describes what data is collected across both platforms and how it is used.

website - account data

when you create an account on dawn.show, your name and email address are collected. this information is stored securely and used to manage your account, process subscriptions, and send transactional emails (verification, password reset).

website - payment processing

payments are processed by stripe. your credit card details are not stored by dawn. stripe's privacy policy applies to payment data. your stripe customer id is stored to manage your subscription.

website - cookies

the website uses essential cookies for authentication (session management). no third-party tracking cookies or advertising cookies are used.

website - email

transactional emails (verification, password reset) are sent via resend. no marketing emails are sent unless you explicitly opt in.

android tv app - what stays on your tv

the android tv app has no account and no login. nothing you do in it is tied to a name or an email address.

these are saved only on your television, are never sent anywhere, and go away when you uninstall the app:

• audio volume preferences
• ambient music on/off state and volume
• watch progress per scene
• first-launch welcome flag
• downloaded scenes, so they play without a connection

android tv app - what the app sends

the app does send usage and diagnostic data. when it is installed it generates a random id for that install. that id is not your google account and not a device serial number, and it changes if you clear the app's data or reinstall. it travels with each of the following:

• which scenes were opened, and whether the unlock screen was shown
• app version, android version, device model and manufacturer
• playback problems and crashes, including the error text
• the country the request came from, worked out from the network address

this is used to see whether the app works on real televisions and whether anyone finds the library. none of it is sold or used for advertising, and it is kept separate from anything on the website.

purchases are handled by google play and recorded through revenuecat, which is how the app knows an unlock belongs to you across reinstalls.

both the website and the android tv app use:

• mux - video hosting and streaming
• bunny - video delivery (cdn)
• sanity - content management

• vercel - hosting
• neon - database hosting

website only:

• stripe - payment processing
• resend - transactional email
• goatcounter - privacy-focused analytics

android tv app only:

• google play billing - purchases
• revenuecat - keeps track of which unlocks belong to which google account

video cdn providers (mux, bunny) may collect standard technical data (ip address, device type) as part of delivering video content.

analytics and advertising

the website uses goatcounter, a privacy-focused analytics tool that does not use cookies or collect personal data. the android tv app reports its own usage and crash data to dawn, as described above. neither the website nor the app carries advertising, and neither uses a third-party advertising or tracking sdk.

children

dawn does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. the android tv app is rated everyone / pegi 3. it has no account and asks for no personal details, and the usage data it reports is tied to a random install id rather than to a person.

data sharing

dawn does not sell, rent, or share any user data with third parties, except through the service providers listed above which are necessary to operate the platform.

data retention

account data on dawn.show is retained for as long as your account is active. you may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting hi@dawn.show. uninstalling the android tv app removes everything it kept on your television. the usage and diagnostic records described above stay in dawn's database. they are not linked to an account, so the app cannot recognise you and clear them on its own. if you want them removed, email the address above and say roughly when and on what kind of television you used the app, and dawn will find them and delete them.

changes

if new features require collecting additional personal data, this policy will be updated before those features launch.
